If you're thinking of starting therapy with me, you'd probably like to know who I am. So I'll try to tell you some of the things that I'd want to know if I were in your position.
I am qualified, experienced, and professionally registered. I have an Msc in psychotherapy, and over 15 years experience in both the public and private sectors. I am registered with UKCP (United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy), and BACP (Brisitsh Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy). I am also a member of IFT (Institute of Family Therapy).
I will work with you to explore any issue that you choose to bring to therapy. My approach is conversational and there are no limits to what can be discussed.
My primary aim is to create an environment in which you feel able to explore aspects of yourself that have hitherto been unexplored. We don't always find it easy to allow our attention to focus on matters that cause distress, especially if it means looking closely at ourselves. Therapy can offer a protected space and a supportive relationship, in which this process of close attention can be made possible.
I have developed a specialist interest in working with people affected by trauma. I work closely with the Pottergate Centre for Dissociation and Trauma to support people struggling with conditions such as PTSD and dissociative disorders.
